On December 3rd Beijing time, the Clippers announced via their official account that they have parted ways with Paul: "We have decided to part ways with Chris, who will no longer be on the team. We will help him plan his next career move. Chris is a Clippers legend, and his career is recorded in the history books. I want to emphasize: no one will blame Chris for the team's downturn. I accept responsibility for the team's current results. There are many reasons behind the team's difficulties. We sincerely thank Chris for the profound impact he has had on the team."

Just minutes ago, Paul posted on social media: "I was just informed that I’m being sent home." Reporter Haynes reported that, according to league sources, the Los Angeles Clippers are unexpectedly parting ways with future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul.
The Clippers are currently in Atlanta preparing for tomorrow's game against the Hawks. Paul's contract is currently non-tradeable and fully guaranteed. Later, other media outlets confirmed that the Clippers are indeed planning to waive Paul, meaning he will not be able to complete his farewell tour with the team.
Earlier this season, Paul had stated on social media that this would be his final season, but now, unexpectedly, he and the Clippers are splitting ways before even half the season has passed!

Paul’s salary this season is $3.63 million. So far, he has played 16 games for the Clippers, averaging 2.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 32.1%. The Clippers currently hold a 5-16 record.

Clippers reporter Farbod wrote: "There must be more to the Chris Paul situation. This season CP3 even held a personal press conference, and the team made a tribute video for him. Without a major reason, you would never just give up on a franchise legend — someone who deserves to have his jersey retired and hang in the rafters."
Clippers reporter Joey Linn also said: "With the team holding a 5-16 record, and just over a month after Paul’s planned retirement tour was to begin, the Clippers have chosen to send him home. For now, CP3 ending his career with the Clippers is almost the only bright spot in this season. Maybe there’s more to come, but in such a terrible season, is this really the first step you take?"
