Billups has sold his Portland property! Team reporter: Even if cleared, he does not expect to return as head coach

On December 7th Beijing time, according to Blazers reporter Sean Highkin, Billups, suspended by the Blazers over federal gambling accusations, has sold his home at Oswego Lake in Portland.

On November 25th, Billups appeared in federal court where he was charged with involvement in a rigged underground poker game, facing counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering; he has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Highkin noted that as the case moves into the judicial process (which could take over a year), Billups' position with the Blazers remains uncertain. However, his recent sale of the Oswego Lake property seems to indicate that even if he is ultimately exonerated, he does not expect to resume his coaching role with the team.

The 49-year-old Billups is currently out on bail. He used his Colorado property as collateral, with his wife and daughter acting as co-signers.

Under the bail agreement, Billups must avoid gambling and cannot contact other defendants or alleged victims. He has surrendered his passport and is only permitted to travel within seven states, including Oregon (home of the Blazers) and New York. Billups and his co-defendants, including former NBA player and assistant coach Damon Jones, attended a hearing, with the next court date set for March 4th.

According to ESPN, the judge informed all attorneys during the hearing that there is a plan to expedite the case, aiming to start the trial before September 2026. Billups faces multiple charges with a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Prosecutors allege the poker game involved defrauding victims of approximately $7 million.

After Billups was suspended, Splitt took over as the Blazers' interim head coach. The team currently holds a 9-14 record, ranking 10th in the Western Conference.
