Wagner Jr. seriously injured! Attempted alley-oop but was fouled by opponent and fell; left leg unable to bear weight, helped off the court.

On December 8th Beijing time, in the Magic’s 100-106 defeat against the Knicks, the team’s forward Wagner Jr. limped off the court with a left calf injury and was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the game by the Magic.

With 4 minutes 43 seconds left in the first quarter, Wagner Jr. stole the ball from Brunson and sprinted to the basket to set up, receiving an alley-oop pass from teammate Black. Knicks' big man Hooker Polti fouled Wagner Jr. while blocking the pass. Wagner Jr. landed awkwardly and immediately clutched his left knee in pain.

Hooker Polti, also a German player, clearly felt remorse about the injury and approached Wagner Jr. to show concern. After lying on the court for a long time, Wagner Jr. was helped off by his brother Moritz Wagner and rookie Penda, unable to put weight on his left leg as he left.

The Magic stated that Wagner Jr. will undergo an MRI scan upon returning to Orlando.

This season, the promising Magic team has faced numerous setbacks. Last season’s top scorer Banchero just returned from a left groin strain and had already missed 10 games due to injury.

During this period, Wagner Jr. has been one of the main scoring options for the team. Over the past 7 games, he has averaged 25.1 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. He currently leads the team in scoring with an average of 23.4 points per game, shooting 48.7% from the field, 35.4% from three-point range, and 82.3% from the free-throw line.

Notably, Wagner Jr. suffered a nasal bone fracture in November and has been playing with a mask since. He was even nominated for the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for October-November. Last season, he averaged 24.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists but only played 60 games due to injury, missing out on awards.
