The Rockets finalized a significant acquisition by obtaining Durant this summer, and the team apparently has no intention to act again shortly. As reported by Sam Amick on December 11th Beijing time, the Rockets have no plans to initiate a trade involving the Grizzlies’ standout player Morant.

Amick pointed out in his report that the team’s general manager, Rafael Stone, consistently prioritizes the long-term development of the team and firmly avoids what he considers “shortcut trades with overpayment” — even though veteran guard VanVleet is out for the season due to an ACL tear, Stone remains steadfast in this approach.
Sources within the league told Amick that despite a clear gap in the Rockets’ backcourt, the team is expected not to explore options to bring in Morant. Previously, some media speculated about the Rockets forming a “Lant combo,” pairing Durant with Morant.

The Rockets started this season with a 15-6 record, ranking fourth in the Western Conference. The team relies mainly on Durant, Sengun, Amen Thompson, and a deep rotation of young players. This squad returned to the playoffs last season for the first time in four years.
Meanwhile, Morant has been sidelined due to a right calf strain and has played only 12 games this season, averaging 17.9 points and 7.6 assists per game. The Grizzlies currently hold an 11-13 record, placing ninth in the West. At 26 years old, Morant earns nearly $40 million this season, with his contract extending through the 2027-28 season.
