Guo Haowen sets a career-high with 42 points, Xu Jie exits due to injury, Sumner scores 26 in debut as Guangdong narrowly beats Nanjing in overtime

On December 14th Beijing time, during the CBA regular season, Guangdong defeated Nanjing 107-102 in overtime on their home court, achieving a successful season start.

Guangdong’s Sumner contributed 26 points and 4 assists, Salinger added 19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, Quinn scored 14 points with 3 steals; for Nanjing, Guo Haowen had 42 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists, Manek posted 15 points and 13 rebounds, Zhu Mingzhen scored 14 points, Lavert had 12 points and 5 assists, and Solomon grabbed 10 points and 12 rebounds.

In the first quarter, Xu Jie hit a long-range shot while both Quinn and Xu Jie drove to the basket; Guo Haowen and Huang Rongqi stepped up to score, and Manek responded with a layup, tying the game at 8-all. Salinger and Quinn scored consecutively, Hu Mingxuan finished a fast break, and Jiao Boqiao made a successful layup; Guo Haowen completed a three-point play, Zhu Mingzhen nailed a three-pointer, and the teams were tied again at 17. Quinn’s three-pointer, Jiao Boqiao’s spin layup, and Wang Hongze’s easy basket helped Guangdong close the quarter leading 26-20.

In the second quarter, Hu Mingxuan and Xu Jie both scored layups, giving Guangdong a 10-point lead at 32-22. Xu Jie hit another long-range shot, Salinger made a spin layup, Sumner completed a three-point play, Salinger hit another three-pointer, and Wang Hongze scored an easy put-back. Zhang Hao and Salinger continued attacking the basket, helping Guangdong steadily maintain their advantage. Near the end of the quarter, Xu Jie was fouled by Wu Tingjia, causing an injury that forced him off the court. At halftime, Guangdong led 55-42.

In the third quarter, Guo Haowen caught fire from outside, hitting two consecutive three-pointers. Ma Xinxin and Lavert made successful layups as Nanjing played well to narrow the score to 57-63. Wang Hongze powered through under the basket, Salinger scored a layup, and Sumner and Hu Mingxuan hit back-to-back three-pointers, helping Guangdong extend their lead to 77-67. Guo Haowen hit a long shot, Solomon slammed a dunk in the paint, keeping Nanjing in pursuit. The quarter ended with Guangdong leading 79-75.

In the final quarter, Manek and Huang Rongqi aggressively attacked, helping Nanjing take an 82-81 lead. Guo Haowen and Manek both scored crucial points; Zhang Wenyi’s three-pointer kept Guangdong close. Zhu Mingzhen sank a three, and Guo Haowen’s strong basket put Nanjing ahead 94-92. Sumner made two critical free throws, tying the game at 94. Jiao Boqiao missed a buzzer-beater, and the teams entered overtime tied at 94.

In overtime, Guo Haowen hit a long-range shot, putting Nanjing ahead 97-94. Sumner and Jiao Boqiao scored under the basket, and Zhang Wenyi’s three-pointer gave Guangdong a 105-99 lead. Guangdong then firmly held their advantage and secured the win as desired.
