On January 18 Beijing time, TMZ reported that 46-year-old former NBA player Lamar Odom was detained in Las Vegas. Early Saturday morning local time, police arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving and officially recorded the incident. He was also charged with two traffic violations — speeding more than 41 miles per hour over the limit and illegal lane changes or failure to maintain proper lane discipline. As of TMZ’s report, Odom remains held at the Clark County Detention Center.

Odom has a well-documented history of substance abuse and alcoholism. He was arrested in 2013 for drunk driving. In 2015, he nearly died from a drug overdose, at which time his then-wife Khloe Kardashian rushed to care for him and support his recovery. After relapsing in 2016, the couple ended their marriage shortly thereafter.

Odom was selected fourth overall in the first round of the 1999 NBA Draft by the Clippers. Over 14 NBA seasons, he played for the Clippers, Lakers, Heat, and Mavericks. In his career, he appeared in 961 regular season games, averaging 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. He won two NBA championships and was named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year for the 2010-11 season.

In recent years, Odom has remained committed to sobriety, maintaining a clean lifestyle. He has even extended help to those struggling with addiction through several rehabilitation centers he owns.
