On January 21st, sources from ESPN revealed that Knicks’ leading player Jalen Brunson gathered the team for a private meeting following a crushing home loss to the Mavericks.

Multiple insiders stated that after losing 9 of 11 games and enduring a four-game losing streak, Brunson made it clear during the meeting that the Knicks need to look for solutions to their poor performance since January within the team itself, rather than relying on the coaching staff.
The Knicks started the season strong with a 23-9 record and even won the NBA Cup, but their current record has slipped to 25-18, with their offensive output ranking among the bottom five in the league this January.
At halftime, the Knicks trailed 45-75, and fans at Madison Square Garden showered the home team with boos. After the game, Brunson said in an interview, “As a team, we know what we need to do. Either we give it our all or we fall apart.”
Worried about the team's current situation, Brunson called this meeting and stressed to his teammates that the key to overcoming their recent struggles lies within the walls of the locker room.
Knicks forward Hart admitted after the game, “Each of us needs to seriously reflect. Right now, we are playing terribly. There’s no execution on offense, and the defense is practically non-existent. In fact, our defense has been awful all season long.”

Earlier, Knicks reporter Popper noted that New York has discussed potential trades for Towns with several teams, including the Memphis Grizzlies, Orlando Magic, and Charlotte Hornets.
