Rocket hit hard! Adams suffers a grade 3 ankle sprain and will be sidelined indefinitely, possibly out for the season

On January 21st Beijing time, Houston Rockets center Steven Adams will be out indefinitely. Before today’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, head coach Udoka confirmed that Adams suffered a grade 3 sprain in his left ankle. The Rockets’ coach mentioned that the timeline for this important big man’s comeback remains uncertain. Team sources indicate thata grade 3 ankle sprain usually demands 3 to 6 months off, which could mean missing the rest of the season.

The injury occurred during the Rockets’ 119-110 victory over the Pelicans. With just over 9 minutes left in the game, Adams landed awkwardly on his left foot while defending Zion Williamson’s shot and immediately fell to the floor in pain.

He left the game after the injury and did not return. He played 27 minutes in total, contributing 5 points and 10 rebounds.

Adams has been a crucial defensive presence inside for the Rockets this season. In 31 games played, he averages 22.7 minutes per game, producing 5.9 points and 8.6 rebounds.

His absence will significantly weaken the Rockets’ depth at the center position — the team had relied on him to support star center Alperen Şengün. With Adams sidelined long-term, Capela is expected to take on a larger role and shoulder more responsibility.

So far this season, the Rockets hold a 25-15 record, ranking 5th in the Western Conference.
