Lakers face mixed news! Reaves’ condition improves with potential return; Doncic’s left ankle soreness casts doubt on his participation

On January 30th Beijing time, the Lakers released an update on injuries ahead of their match with the Wizards. Austin Reaves, sidelined for 17 games with a calf injury, has been upgraded to questionable (approximately a 50% chance of playing), while Doncic is also doubtful due to soreness in his left ankle. Meanwhile, rookie Thybulle continues to be out.

Though both players are questionable, the situation clearly presents a mix of hope and concern for the Lakers. Reaves has been out for five weeks, and with his status now upgraded, his potential return would greatly boost the team’s offense. However, as Reaves nears a comeback, Doncic is struggling with injury. He hurt his left ankle during yesterday’s heavy loss to the Cavaliers, after stepping back for a shot in the first quarter and slipping due to uneven flooring at the arena.

Nearby fans captured Doncic’s reaction after falling; the Lakers star cursed loudly: “Who the hell designed this damn floor? It’s ridiculous!” Subsequently, footage showed the uneven floor surface, which indeed poses injury risks to players. Despite this, Doncic played the entire game, finishing with 29 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists.

So far this season, the Lakers have a 28-18 record, currently fifth in the Western Conference. Reaves has played 23 games, averaging 26.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists. Although his performance is impressive, he is confirmed to miss more than 65 games and thus will not be eligible for awards. Doncic has appeared in 38 games, averaging 33.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.7 assists.
