9 for 4! A massive blockbuster trade! Farewell, Anthony Davis!

Wow, this is absolutely wild.

Insider Shams reports:The Mavericks traded Anthony Davis, Russell, Hardy, and Exum to the Wizards for Middleton, AJ Johnson, Brannard, Bagley, two first-round picks, and three second-round picks.

The biggest regret surrounding this trade is that the three top picks—Irving (2011), Flagg (2025), and Davis (2012)—never got to play together as a trio.

Last year before the trade deadline, Davis was sent from the Lakers to the Mavericks; this year before the deadline, the Mavericks traded him to the Wizards, currently second to last in the Eastern Conference...

Anthony Davis, once hailed as "America’s Son," has now experienced a turbulent journey, and he’s only 32 years old.

By the way, the Wizards are definitely the biggest winners in this year’s trade market, successfully rebuilding by acquiring Trae Young from the Hawks and now Davis from the Mavericks. If these two stay healthy, they will be highly competitive in the East.

Also, given the Wizards’ poor current record, they stand a strong chance—up to 14% probability—to secure the top draft pick at the end of this regular season.

This year’s draft features three superstar prospects: Kansas guard Dalen Peterson, BYU wing AJ Dybantsa, and Duke forward Cameron Boozer.

Regarding Davis, during his entire Mavericks stint, he played only 29 games, averaging 30.8 minutes, 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.8 blocks per game, with shooting percentages of 49.2%, 25.4%, and 71.3%. When healthy, he remains one of the league’s most well-rounded two-way players, but unfortunately, his injury issues have led to far more missed games than played ones.

If Davis weren’t so injury-prone, not only the Mavericks but even his former team, the Lakers, might have been reluctant to trade him away for Doncic. Sadly, there are no “ifs.”

Davis’s current contract runs through the summer of 2028, paying him $54.13 million this season, with roughly $120 million combined over the next two seasons. This summer, he will be eligible to sign a four-year, $275 million max extension ahead of schedule.
