On February 24th Beijing time, reporter Slater reported that the Hawks have moved Jonathan Kuminga’s status to questionable for tomorrow’s matchup with the Wizards, with his Hawks debut anticipated to happen then.

In a previous podcast, reporter Zach Lowe mentioned that the Hawks acquired Kuminga not because of his fit, but rather viewing him as a tradable asset—possibly to be dealt after the team exercises his option this summer.
Reports indicate that the former Warriors forward is currently content in Atlanta, but he may not stay there for long.
Lowe believes Kuminga’s style heavily overlaps with All-Star Jalen Johnson’s, as both share very similar positions and playing styles. He also thinks Kuminga doesn’t mesh well with Daniels, calling Daniels “completely lacking shooting ability.” Daniels’ three-point shooting percentage this season is only 13%.

In other words, the Hawks don’t have much time to slowly decide how to handle Kuminga. As Lowe pointed out, Kuminga has a team option worth $24.3 million for next season.
The team might plan to first pick up his option, then see what kind of return they can get; or watch if he can replace the 2024 top pick Layshia; maybe both strategies are in play.

US media says Warriors fans no longer need to worry about Kuminga’s future, which is a relief, but it doesn’t mean they’ve stopped supporting him. If he shines elsewhere, Warriors fans might still feel a bit uneasy. They hope he does well with the Hawks, but if he’s traded again in the offseason, hopefully he lands with a team that truly suits him.
Before being traded to the Hawks, Kuminga played 20 games for the Warriors this season, averaging 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
