Rare! NCAA Women's Basketball Erupts in Brawl: 8 Players Ejected, Female Referee Injured and Falls to the Court

On March 5th Beijing time, a fight erupted in an NCAA women's basketball game between the University of South Alabama and Coastal Carolina University, resulting in eight players being ejected and a female referee being knocked down and requiring medical attention.

The incident happened with under six minutes left in the fourth quarter, as Harris from South Alabama and Houston from Coastal Carolina got into a confrontation under the basket. Harris appeared to give Houston a slight bump from behind, prompting Houston to turn around, shove, and swing at Harris, who then retaliated.

Two referees, along with several players and staff from both teams, quickly moved in to separate the two. Amid the chaos, one referee was knocked to the floor. It is reported that the referee was struck in the head or neck by Houston while attempting to separate her from Harris.

The referee remained lying on her back on the court until order was restored, with multiple staff and medical personnel rushing onto the floor to attend to her. There is no latest update on the referee's condition at this time.

Both Houston and Harris were assessed technical fouls and ejected from the game. An additional six players involved in the altercation were also ejected. The University of South Alabama ultimately won the game with a final score of 80 to 70.
