Refusing season-ending surgery! Curry himself confirms he will strive to return: eager to fight for a playoff spot.

On March 16 Beijing time, according to Warriors reporter Friedell from The Athletic, Stephen Curry has been sidelined for over six weeks, but he remains determined not to give up on this season.

After the Warriors lost to the Knicks today, Curry spoke to reporters about his knee injury from running and responded to questions about considering a season-ending procedure.

“That’s not our style,” he said. “As long as there’s a chance to play, we’ll keep pushing. I’m working hard on recovery and aiming to come back.”

Curry has been out since injuring himself in the game against the Pistons on January 30. He recently resumed individual training but has not yet set a specific return date. The team announced on Wednesday that Curry will be sidelined for at least another 10 days.

Curry, who just celebrated his 38th birthday over the weekend, admitted that many fans have advised him to rest conservatively and prepare for next season.

“I know we’re short-handed now, but every day I’m checking one thing: whether I can play safely, perform as myself on the court, and not risk short-term or long-term injury. We still have goals to fight for,” Curry said. “We really want the guys to make the playoffs and give it a shot. We also hope this lineup can stay healthy for a stretch, to learn and compete. That’s who we are.”

Curry traveled with the team on this road trip, with five more games over the next seven days, including the next one against the Wizards.

Although the Warriors currently stand at 32 wins and 35 losses, they are unlikely to fall out of the play-in tournament zone, which reduces the urgency for Curry’s immediate return. However, the team still worries about being overtaken by the Trail Blazers and dropping to 10th place—which would require winning two consecutive away games to advance to the playoffs.

Head coach Steve Kerr said in a pre-game interview that Curry’s recovery trend is positive, but there remains uncertainty about how his knee specifically responds to treatment. Kerr also admitted that he misses the superstar greatly.

“Absolutely miss him,” he said. “I’m the luckiest coach in the league to coach him and watch him play. He’s a unique player—grace, skill, charisma, all top-tier. This is the longest stretch he’s been out since the 2020 season when he was almost out for the entire year, as I recall. We really miss him and dearly miss watching him play.”
