A moment of embarrassment! ESPN's preseason win prediction is brought back to light: Warriors lead the entire league with 63 wins.

On March 24 Beijing time, media outlets dug up ESPN's NBA preseason win and ranking predictions. ESPN had predicted the Warriors would finish with 63 wins and 19 losses, ranking first in the Western Conference and the entire league.

ESPN's predicted Western Conference rankings and win totals are as follows—

1. Warriors 63-19, 2. Thunder 58-24, 3. Nuggets 55-27, 4. Grizzlies 51-31, 5. Clippers 48-34, 6. Rockets 44-38, 7. Timberwolves 44-38, 8. Trail Blazers 43-39, 9. Suns 42-40, 10. Kings 38-44, 11. Spurs 38-44, 12. Mavericks 36-46, 13. Lakers 36-46, 14. Pelicans 34-48, 15. Jazz 21-61.

ESPN's predicted Eastern Conference rankings and win totals are as follows—

1. Magic 57-25, 2. Knicks 50-32, 3. Hawks 47-35, 4. Pacers 47-35, 5. Raptors 46-36, 6. Bucks 44-38, 7. Cavaliers 44-38, 8. Heat 42-40, 9. Bulls 41-41, 10. Celtics 40-42, 11. 76ers 37-45, 12. Pistons 36-46, 13. Hornets 23-59, 14. Nets 13-69, 15. Wizards 12-70.

Looking at the current latest rankings (see chart below), there is clearly a huge difference compared to ESPN's original predictions.

First, in the Western Conference, ESPN's most favored team, the Warriors, now only ranks 10th in the West. Meanwhile, the Spurs and Lakers, whom they underestimated, are now ranked 2nd and 3rd in the West.

Turning to the Eastern Conference, the Pistons, whom ESPN did not favor, now rank 1st in the East, which also surprises most people. The Celtics at 2nd in the East is similarly a surprising ranking. ESPN's most favored team in the East, the Magic, now only ranks 8th, and the Pacers, predicted to be 4th in the East, currently have the worst record in the league.
