On April 11 Beijing time, Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been discharged from a hospital in Houston and is returning to Philadelphia. The team stated today that there is currently no definite timetable for Embiid's return. Previous reports indicated that similar cases in the NBA average around 23 days of absence.

After being diagnosed with appendicitis, Embiid underwent emergency surgery yesterday. The 76ers stated that Embiid's postoperative recovery will be managed jointly by the team doctors and the surgeon. ESPN listed Embiid's playoff injury history—

With Embiid absent, the 76ers lost to the Rockets 102-113 yesterday. Currently, the team enters the final stretch as the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, with only two games remaining: today's away game against the Pacers and Monday's home game against the Bucks.
Based on the 76ers' own results and outcomes of other league games, Philadelphia could still finish as the sixth seed in the East to directly qualify for the playoffs, or could drop to the tenth seed and enter the play-in tournament, which begins on Wednesday.
76ers head coach Nick Nurse said yesterday that Embiid's condition during training the day before was still okay, but his illness suddenly worsened that night. "This is a heavy blow for us," Nurse stated, "The most important thing right now is Joel's successful surgery and smooth recovery. That's what I'm most concerned about at this moment."
The 32-year-old Embiid played 38 games this season, averaging 26.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. The Athletic reporter Tony Jones noted that Embiid's emergency appendicitis surgery has completely altered the 76ers' situation, not only making the team's playoff position battle more difficult but also significantly reducing their chances of winning a series.
