On April 24 Beijing time, the Lakers currently lead the Rockets 2-0 in the series, and the biggest question hanging over the team remains unchanged: When will Luka Doncic return?

ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin posted a video on social media, capturing Doncic appearing at the Lakers training facility. McMenamin described: "After practice, Luka Doncic conducted controlled, low-intensity movement and shooting drills under the supervision of Lakers assistant coach Greg St. Jean."
In the video, Doncic practiced near the free-throw line, completing stationary shots, single-leg drills, catch-and-shoot exercises, and even hit a three-pointer. His overall condition shows he is gradually and cautiously progressing in his recovery training.

Doncic has been sidelined since April 3. At that time, the Lakers lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and he suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. Subsequently, he flew to Madrid for specialized stem cell treatment and returned to Los Angeles before the playoffs began.
Meanwhile, Lakers head coach JJ Redick's stance is more cautious. According to reporter Benjamin Royer, Redick confirmed: Austin Reaves' recovery is progressing steadily, but Doncic has not yet participated in team training.
The shooting in the video was just an individual extra session after practice, which is completely different from participating in systematic team training.
There is currently no change in the return timeline. ESPN insider Shams provided clear information: "The Lakers do not expect Doncic to return in this series. He is currently out indefinitely, though Austin Reaves has made some progress in his on-court recovery."

The Lakers must navigate past the Rockets without Doncic. So far, they have performed quite well. With both Doncic and Reaves absent, the Lakers defeated the Rockets 107-98 in Game 1; Luke Kennard exploded for a playoff career-high 27 points, and James orchestrated the offense with 13 assists. The Lakers then secured another win, taking a 2-0 lead in the series.
Whether Doncic can return before the end of this series remains unknown. But if the Lakers successfully eliminate the Rockets and his recovery proceeds smoothly, he has a full chance to return at full strength. Their likely opponent in the next round would be last season's champions, the Thunder.
