How much will it cost to re-sign Dosunmu? The Timberwolves' current offer is restricted, potentially reaching $100 million over four years this summer.

On April 26, Dosunmu, coming off the bench, scored 43 points on 13-of-17 shooting, becoming the key contributor in the Timberwolves' victory over the Nuggets. The question then arises: what price must be paid to re-sign Dosunmu?

If the Timberwolves view Dosunmu as a starting point guard to develop, they must match that level with a corresponding salary this summer. This 26-year-old player will become an unrestricted free agent in July; if the Timberwolves fail to complete extension negotiations before he is eligible to receive offers from other teams, he will inevitably attract intense bidding from multiple teams across the league.

Dosunmu's salary this season is only around $7 million. U.S. media suggests that a reference in the free market could be Andrew Nembhard's three-year, $58.6 million contract with the Pacers signed last summer. Overall, an annual salary of around $19.5 million for Dosunmu is very reasonable, especially given his impending promotion to a starting role.

However, before July 1, the Timberwolves are restricted by rules and can only offer him a maximum three-year, $52.4 million extension contract. The team acquired partial Bird rights for Dosunmu in a trade; before the official opening of the free market, they can only offer a three-year contract with an annual salary cap of approximately $17 million.

If no early extension is reached and Dosunmu enters free market directly, the Timberwolves will hold his full Bird rights, allowing them to offer a maximum five-year contract; but simultaneously, other teams will join the bidding, continuously driving up the offers.

If Dosunmu believes he can secure a larger contract in the free agent bidding war, his salary ceiling could be comparable to Daniels' four-year, $100 million deal signed with the Hawks.

Daniels is one of the league's top defensive players, with steady rebounding and assist numbers, but his offense is far inferior to Dosunmu, with a noticeable gap in shooting efficiency.

If the Timberwolves ultimately re-sign Dosunmu within an annual salary range of $17 million to $25 million, this contract will be added atop the large contracts of Edwards, Gobert, McDaniels, Randle, Reid, and others.

For the 2026–27 season, the Timberwolves currently have eight players under contract: Edwards, Gobert, McDaniels, Randle, Reid, DiVincenzo, Bellinger, Terrence Shannon, plus a $2.4 million team option for Phillips.

The total salary for these eight players is projected to reach $188 million, leaving about $21 million space below the league's first apron threshold.

Re-signing Dosunmu will likely push the team's salary above the first apron; the team will subsequently need to fill out the roster. Overall operations remain manageable, temporarily avoiding the second luxury tax apron. The Timberwolves will certainly strive to avoid the second apron to evade the accompanying massive luxury tax, trade restrictions, and draft pick penalties.
