On June 12, Beijing time, after the Knicks' comeback win in Game 4 of the NBA Finals yesterday, numerous fans congregated outside the secured area around Madison Square Garden and started creating havoc, resulting in 56 people being taken into custody.

A video shared on social media captures the Spurs, following a heartbreaking defeat, being blocked by a crowd of Knicks fans upon arriving at their hotel. While most fans only hurled insults, the footage shows some individuals throwing debris, including eggs, at the Spurs players. Victor Wembanyama was hit by an egg and briefly attempted to confront the fans, but was quickly escorted into the hotel by his companions. Another angle of the scene reveals that someone also used a laser pointer to shine at the players.
Police reported that those arrested were located along multiple blocks from Fifth Avenue to Eighth Avenue, facing charges such as assaulting officers, illegal possession of weapons, and vandalism. Another 41 individuals were released after receiving criminal summonses. Ten police officers were injured in the incident, with one sustaining a head wound from a glass bottle.

The New York Police Department estimated that around 10,000 people gathered on the streets near the arena that night. In a statement, the NYPD said, "The Knicks are on a hot streak, and the entire city is excited. We hope everyone can celebrate safely, but protecting all citizens remains our top priority. During and after last night’s game, a large crowd engaged in extremely reckless and dangerous behavior, which is exactly why we deployed additional officers to Madison Square Garden and the surrounding areas."
The police listed specific acts of public disorder as follows:
Blocking streets and preventing vehicle traffic
Jumping onto the roofs of moving trucks, taxis, and other vehicles still carrying passengers
Attempting to overturn taxis with bare hands
Setting off fireworks in the middle of the crowd
Climbing on scaffolding, lampposts, traffic signals, and buildings
Throwing glass bottles and other objects at the crowd and police officers
Engaging in group fights and causing injuries
Climbing onto police vehicles, with four patrol cars heavily damaged and their front and rear windshields completely shattered
Breaking into a cargo trailer, stealing items inside, and throwing them at officers and bystanders

This marks the second consecutive game at the Knicks' home arena that has ended with severe postgame disturbances. After the Spurs won Game 3, multiple videos showed Spurs fans being attacked on the streets. At that time, the viewing party at Bryant Park turned into a riot, leading to 21 arrests.
Speaking about the incident after Game 3, Wembanyama said, "I just want to remind everyone that this is only a game. We are just competing on the court. I understand the passion of the fans, but even so, mutual respect is the bottom line, and this kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable."
