No. 4 pick Wilson debuts with Bulls! Aiming for Rookie of the Year, confident his skills rival those of the top three picks

On June 27, Beijing time, Chicago Bulls rookie Caleb Wilson showed great confidence in his own talent. At today's welcome press conference, the No. 4 pick in the NBA draft was asked what he expects from his rookie season, and he directly declared that his aim is the Rookie of the Year honor.

"To be honest, I'm determined to take home the Rookie of the Year award," Wilson stated. "I'll go all out and spare no effort to reach that goal. This team fits me well and completely aligns with my style of play."

Wilson spent only one season at the University of North Carolina. On draft night, he boldly proclaimed his ambition to match none other than Michael Jordan, another UNC legend in Bulls history, and now he's making headlines again. At that time, Wilson said, "The Bulls' history includes one of the greatest players in basketball. Now it's time for another one to emerge."

Wilson attributed his confidence to relentless daily training. "Once I set a goal, I take action and eventually grow into a top player. I'm sure I have that ability," Wilson explained. "Everyone chases goals. Saying I want to be the best ever sounds arrogant, but that's what I'm after. I refuse to settle for being just an average player."

"If I achieve it, great. Even if I don't, I'll have no regrets because I gave it my all."

The Bulls hosted a joint introductory event at their training center for two rookies: No. 4 pick Wilson and No. 15 pick Darrin Swain from the University of Texas. Sitting beside them was the team's new vice president of basketball operations, Bryson Graham, who took office in April. These two rookies are the first additions in his rebuilding plan for the franchise.

"Honestly, everything feels brand new, like turning a new page," Wilson reflected. "We already have all the pieces to build a strong team. I'll step up as a leader right away, lead by example, and bring glory back to this city. I truly cherish this opportunity, and the teammates around me are enough to make our dreams come true."

In March, Wilson fractured his thumb and missed the NCAA tournament, which limited his playing sample compared to the three players drafted ahead of him: Wizards forward A.J. DeBansah, Jazz guard Darin Peterson, and Grizzlies forward Cameron Boozer. Despite that, Wilson remains confident that his actual ability is on par with all his peers in this draft class.

"I've played against those guys, and you all know the results. So draft position doesn't mean anything."

"I don't care about media rankings. I was born a competitor. I'm going to play in Summer League next. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to prove I'm at their level—or even better than them."

He'll get a direct chance to compete next month. The Bulls' first three opponents in the Las Vegas Summer League happen to be the Grizzlies, Jazz, and Wizards.
