On September 14, in the Berlin final, the US women's basketball team beat France 97-79 to achieve a five-peat World Cup championship, continuing their glorious legacy in the event.

Inside a sold-out Berlin arena, the US team overturned a 14-point first-half deficit to win. Jackie Young had her best game of the tournament with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. However, the game was truly dictated by another masterclass from Breanna Stewart, who put up a stunning double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Stewart made history by becoming the first player to win the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup MVP award twice.

This was France's first appearance in a World Cup final. Gabby Williams was the cornerstone of the French team, which also achieved its best-ever finish; the team had previously won bronze in the inaugural 1953 Women's Basketball World Cup.

The All-Star Five was announced: Stewart, her US teammate Jackie Young, France's Gabby Williams, Spain's Iyana Martín, and Germany's Leonie Fiebich.

In the bronze medal match, Iyana Martín scored 22 points to lead Spain to an easy 81-58 victory over Germany. It marked Spain's fourth podium finish in five tournaments; hosts Germany, though missing out on a medal, also achieved their best World Cup result.

The 2026 edition also set a new attendance record for the Women's Basketball World Cup. Despite fewer games being hosted in Berlin, total attendance reached 236,015, surpassing the previous record of 145,519 set in 2022. The average attendance of 6,556 per game set a new benchmark.
