On August 18, Beijing time, in the podcast episode of Dream Chasing, Celtics assistant coach Sam Cassel was asked about Olajuwon PK Jokic. Who will win against two historic centre-forwards? Cassel thinks former teammate Big Dream will dominate Jokic.
Cassel asserts that Olajuwon will be the side that has the upper hand due to his all-out influence on the pitch. Cassel described Olajuwon as a dominant force, noting that he is at the top of the NBA in a variety of stats, including blocks, steals, rebounds, and scoring.
"Hakim [Olajuwon] is a beast in every sense of the word. He's at the top of the NBA in a lot of stats โ blocks, steals, rebounds, points," Cassel said.
According to the current data rankings, Olajuwon ranks first all-time in blocks (3,830), 10th all-time in steals (2,162), 14th all-time in rebounds (13,748), and 13th all-time in points (26,946).
Cassel admits that Jokic could score a lot of points, but believes that Olajuwon can keep pressing Jokic, which will be decisive.
"Hakim will win because he will keep putting pressure on Jokic. Jokic couldn't do damage on the inside," Cassel also stressed that Olajuwon's defensive ability was a key factor in this virtual matchup, "On the other end of the court, Jokic didn't have a chance. Embiid is causing problems for him, and he has no hope of getting to Hakim. I'm sure no matter what Jokic tries defensively, Hakim will have the answer. "Obviously, Kassel thinks that Jokic and Big Dream are not on the same level from a defensive level.
Olajuwon played 18 seasons in the NBA, played in 1,238 regular season games, averaged 21.8 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game, won the NBA championship twice, was selected as an All-Star 12, was named to the All-Defensive Team 12 times, was named to the All-Defensive Team 9 times, and was selected as the All-Defensive Player twice. He also won 1 regular season MVP, 2 Finals MVP, 2 rebounding kings, and 3 block kings. After retiring, Dameng has also coached many stars including Yao Ming, James and Kobe.
Jokic has played nine seasons in the NBA, played in 675 regular season games, averaged 20.9 points, 10.7 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game, won one NBA championship, one Finals MVP, three regular season MVP selections, six All-Star selections, and six All-Star selections.
