A verbal agreement has been reached! Horford and Melton have committed to joining the Warriors, pending the resolution of the Kuminga situation before signing.

On July 22, Beijing time, NBA reporter Brett Siegel reported that Horford and Melton have reached a verbal agreement with the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are waiting for the resolution of Kuminga's restricted free agency before they can officially sign Horford and Melton.

Siegel noted, "The primary concern for the Warriors is that Kuminga does not have a market at the moment. This situation could extend into August, further hindering the team's other planned transactions in the free agency market."

“As we have mentioned multiple times in our columns, it is widely expected that Al Horford and Daryl Melton will sign with the Warriors. Several personnel from teams in the NBA Summer League have indicated that Horford and Melton have already reached a verbal agreement with the Warriors.”

Last season, Horford played for the Celtics; Melton was traded to the Nets after appearing in six games for the Warriors due to a torn left ACL.

The Warriors achieved a record of 48 wins last season. They defeated the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs after a seven-game battle, but lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round with a score of 1-4.

The Warriors won the first game of the Western Conference semifinals against the Timberwolves on the road. However, Stephen Curry suffered a left hamstring injury in that game and missed the remainder of the series. After losing this NBA legend, the Warriors faced a four-game losing streak.

Last season, Horford played 60 games for the Celtics. This five-time All-Star and 2024 NBA champion averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, shooting 42.3% from the field, 36.3% from three-point range, and 89.5% from the free-throw line.

Meanwhile, during his time with the Warriors last season, Melton averaged 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, with a shooting percentage of 40.7%, a three-point percentage of 37.1%, and a free-throw percentage of 62.5%.

The Warriors have yet to take any action in the free agency market, and Kuminga's restricted free agency issue is a key obstacle to the team's operations.
