On August 10, Beijing time, the Polish Basketball Association announced on Sunday that forward Jeremy Sochan will miss the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket Championship. The 22-year-old forward will be sidelined due to a calf injury, missing this tournament co-hosted by Poland.
Although Sochan's injury is not serious, he needs rest and recovery, and with less than three weeks remaining until the tournament starts, he is compelled to take a break. Earlier this week, Sochan reported discomfort in his calf after a practice, and subsequent examinations showed that he would not recover in time to participate. However, Sochan is expected to be fully recovered before the Spurs' training camp.
“We are very sorry that Jeremy’s summer with the national team has ended so abruptly,” said national team director Lukasz Koszarek. “He is a valued member of the team and has great chemistry with his teammates.”
Poland will host Group D matches in Katowice, facing tough opponents including France, Slovenia, Israel, Belgium, and Iceland.
Sochan has one year left on his contract, with a salary of $7.09 million for the 2025-26 season. He was eligible for an early extension with the Spurs this summer, but no agreement has been reached yet. If there is a significant gap between his asking price and what the Spurs are willing to pay, the Spurs may consider trading him before the start of the new season. The Spurs have already given Fox a maximum contract, but they cannot offer high salaries to everyone; core players like Fox and Wembanyama will certainly be prioritized, while Sochan's standing within the team may not be as high.
In the 2024-25 season, Sochan played 54 regular-season games for the Spurs, averaging 11.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists, with a shooting percentage of 53.5%, a three-point shooting percentage of 30.8%, and a free throw percentage of 69.6%.
