After losing the first test by eight wickets, the visitors are eager to bounce back. Australia dismissed them for under 200 runs in both innings. Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc claimed 10 wickets in the match, including seven in the first innings.
"This England team rushes forward. They charge at the danger," Vaughan commented on BBC Radio 5 Live.
"I'm not convinced that’s a wise approach when the ball is moving around. Stick to the traditional methods.
"I’m not suggesting they always play defensively like Geoff Boycott or Alastair Cook. But they should be sensible when the ball swings a bit."
England have only won three series in Australia over the past 50 years, the latest in 2010-11. They haven’t secured a single test victory Down Under since then.
Since McCullum and captain Ben Stokes took over in 2022, they have adopted an extremely aggressive style called "Bazball".
"They entertain greatly but haven’t won a five-match series in the last three to four years. Here’s my advice for England: it’s not effective," Vaughan stated.
"England must improve significantly. They require a more consistent and resilient performance."
The second test, played with a pink ball, will start on Thursday in Brisbane.
