Maxwell, who has been part of the IPL since 2012, said the league played a significant role in his development as a cricketer.
“This is a major decision, one I make with deep appreciation for all that this league has given me," the 37-year-old stated on Instagram.
"The IPL has shaped me both as a player and as an individual. I have been fortunate to play alongside world-class teammates, represent amazing franchises, and perform before fans with unmatched passion.
"The experiences, the challenges, and the vibrant spirit of India will remain with me always."
Faf du Plessis and Andre Russell also confirmed their absence from IPL 2026 last week, with the former South African skipper opting to compete in the Pakistan Super League and the West Indies all-rounder joining Kolkata Knight Riders' coaching staff.
The IPL 2026 auctions are scheduled for December 16th.
