These skins almost always participate in the voting every year, and the official has stated that once they win a return spot, they won’t be sold directly but will be available for exchange in the skin fragment shop, making them essentially free to obtain. However, the voting results each year have been disappointing. Not only do they rarely return, but their vote counts are very low, usually ranking near the bottom. Currently, the highest ranking is Zhen Ji’s Garden Dream, around 25th place. Why do these free skins get so few votes?

Analysis of the reasons

First, the main reason players don’t vote is precisely because these skins are free. They were previously released for free through in-game events, and since the skins themselves are of good quality, players naturally didn’t miss out. This means that when these skins appear on the voting list the following year, many players already own them, so they don’t vote for them. Although some new players might have missed them, compared to existing players, newcomers are a minority. Unless all anniversary skins pool their votes together, there might be a chance to compete, but since players’ preferences are scattered, this is unlikely.

Additionally, although these anniversary limited skins are of high quality, the heroes chosen tend to be less popular. For example, heroes like Guiguzi’s Bountiful Harvest and Sang Qi’s Wild Mugwort fall into this category. Heroes with decent popularity often have multiple skins to choose from, such as Zhen Ji, Shangguan Wan’er, and Zhuang Zhou, with a large number of skins ranging from Epic, Legendary to Unparalleled Limited. This results in fewer votes for unpopular heroes and less competitiveness for popular heroes’ skins, naturally leading to even fewer votes.

Another reason is that these anniversary limited skins have special return methods. For example, although they are on the return voting list this year, the skins are actually already available in the game through an event where players can accumulate Tianyuan coins to exchange. Players can choose the new skin for Nuwa’s tenth anniversary or other anniversary limited skins. Since similar events have occurred before, players still have ways to obtain their desired skins, which reduces the number of voters in the poll.
