DRG’s showing in this year’s Grand Arena was once again a typical story of starting strong but fading later. They secured four straight wins early on, which gave them great theoretical points, but then unexpectedly lost the last two matches in a row, ending up last in the Masters division. Their play-off against EDG was extremely intense, with the score swinging from 2-3 to 3-3 and finally to 4-3, barely scraping through. Hence, almost no one had faith in them for this knockout game against Wolves!
Yet, against all odds and widespread doubt, DRG managed to defeat Wolves once again after 1381 days, advancing to the Grand Arena winners' bracket semifinals!
In the first half, DRG led 2-1, but even then, few believed in them! However, DRG showed through their performance that their goal for the Grand Arena is to fight for the championship! In game four, at 3:17, Wolves ambushed and killed Su Lie in the brush. At 4:14, a team fight erupted mid-lane, Wolves focused down Meng Tian and secured the first tyrant. At 5:40, Pei Qinhu teamed up with allies to kill Lian Po and stole the enemy’s blue buff. At 7:37, DRG focused and killed Chi Zha. By 8:27, Pei Qinhu positioned excellently, working with teammates to secure a double kill, completing a flawless team fight with zero losses for DRG.
At 10:27, another team fight broke out, DRG secured the Shadow Tyrant, with Pei Qinhu delivering full damage and, with teammates, claiming a triple kill. DRG finished the fight without losses and pushed the top lane minion wave to break the enemy crystal, reaching match point.
In game five, Wolves managed to even the score, but in game six, DRG completely shut them down! At 2 minutes, Zhang Liang initiated a fight but DRG seized the opportunity to counterattack, killing two opponents. At 4 minutes, Wolves took the dragon first, but skirmishes in the river allowed DRG to secure the first tyrant. At 7 minutes, DRG invaded Wolves’ red zone; Chi Zha dealt massive damage and, with teammates, achieved a triple kill, finishing the team fight without losses. At 10 minutes, DRG claimed the Shadow Tyrant, then found an opening to kill Di Renjie, again winning the team fight without losses. Using the bottom lane minion wave, they broke the crystal and secured the match victory.
With a 4-2 scoreline against their opponents, DRG successfully advanced to the winners' bracket semifinals of the playoffs! They will face WB on October 23rd to compete for a spot in the winners' bracket finals. Meanwhile, Wolves dropped to the losers' bracket, where they will wait on October 22nd for the loser of JDG vs. KSG!
Additionally, this marks DRG’s first BO7 victory over Wolves in 1381 days. Wolves have only won one BO7 this entire year—the summer split against KSG. Out of 7 BO7 matches, their win rate is just 14.29%! Frankly speaking, this Wolves team is the weakest Wolves team in history!
