Doctor Strange driving a tank? The World of Tanks 2025 Christmas ambassador revealed, and it’s actually Benedict Cumberbatch

The most jaw-dropping game event ambassador this year has to be Benedict Cumberbatch, chosen by World of Tanks for their Christmas campaign. When the news broke around six last night, tank commanders went wild with excitement and surprise.

Several commanders expressed that the actor known for playing Doctor Strange doesn’t really match the game’s vibe, and some even teased that he might be the tangible form of a server’s controlling force.

In the short film, Cumberbatch appears to merge several of his iconic characters into one. He plays a highly intelligent psychologist, echoing his sharp intellect shown in Sherlock; at the end, he floats in mid-air against a circular window, paying homage to Doctor Strange.

In the famous World War I film War Horse, Cumberbatch portrayed a determined British cavalry officer. Before tanks became widespread, cavalry units were the main assault force, so in a way, Cumberbatch aligns with World of Tanks’ offensive gameplay philosophy.

If inviting Cumberbatch already created enough buzz, the short film he made for World of Tanks is even more abstract and intriguing.

This time, instead of taking the protagonist to be a cavalryman or tank driver on a thrilling battlefield, Cumberbatch places him in another kind of unseen “war zone” — the psychologist’s office, where he acts as the mastermind advisor for the protagonist Sebastian’s office romance.

Under Cumberbatch’s guidance, Sebastian, who had been too shy to confess to his crush, finally gathers courage. He starts with tanks, and she immediately responds in kind. Just like that, he gains a “teammate” for co-op battles.

Naturally, tank commanders feel jealous: “Why do I only get my good buddies to play tanks with, but he has Cumberbatch helping him strategize romance and gifting tanks?” Some say, “It’s not the AMX-13-105 tank model I’m missing, it’s a female colleague who understands my tank battles!” Others even joke that this is the World of Tanks version of the ‘You also play Genshin Impact?’ meme.
