I wonder what troubles you most when playing support. Probably most players are torn about whether to stick with the ADC or follow the mid/jungle in this version. Relatively speaking, following the mid/jungle to create tempo makes it easier to win, but that basically means abandoning the ADC. If you forcibly stick with the ADC to protect them, your teamfight participation rate might drop significantly, and most ADCs may not be able to carry anyway. So, how should a support play to be most helpful in winning the game?

Mainstream Approach

For higher ranks, the correct approach is actually to abandon the ADC. For example, in yesterday's match between Wolf Team and TOP Esports, after reaching the peak showdown, the only consistent position in both lineups was the ADC, which was Ao Yin. Obviously, choosing this hero is a way to play by abandoning the ADC, because whether it's Luban Master or Zhong Kui, they are heroes that need to follow the team to create tempo in the early to mid game and initiate team fights when necessary. Therefore, choosing Ao Yin, who has a self-protection ultimate, is the best option for the ADC position.

Throughout the game, this approach was basically followed. Only occasionally would the support go to the bottom lane to help relieve pressure, but they wouldn't stay long.

For low and mid ranks, people still tend to stick with the ADC. On one hand, ADCs are indeed relatively weak, and many ADCs are not aware of this, so they frequently get ganked in the early to mid game. With a support around, there is some room for error, preventing a complete collapse. On the other hand, mid and jungle players also have varying skill levels. Many mid laners and junglers can't really create tempo in the early game. Some mid laners just clear waves in the middle, some junglers just farm blindly. Even if you follow them, there's no tempo. Moreover, many supports themselves choose functional supports like Cai Wenji or Yao, who don't contribute much to initiating tempo.

Only when the ADC's performance is really poor and the mid/jungle are doing well, the support might abandon the ADC and switch to help the mid/jungle, because even soft supports can provide healing and shields, offering more room for error.

The Most Stable Playstyle?

So how should a support choose to be most stable? Actually, the core principle is just one: wherever the enemy support is, you should be there.

At the start, don't rush to follow anyone. First, secure the river vision between mid and bottom lane, protecting the jungle camps from invasion while indirectly ensuring the ADC's safe farming. If the mid/jungle need support and the enemy support is there, decisively go help. Conversely, if the enemy support is sticking with the ADC, switch your approach and stick with your ADC as well, preventing a 1v2 situation.

Of course, the ideal solution is to take the initiative: call the mid and jungle to push down the bottom tower. This frees the ADC to rotate to mid and jungle to farm, giving the ADC gold and the support more flexibility.

Also, different ranks require different approaches. In high ranks, the mid/jungle can create tempo and ADCs know how to play safe, so the support can abandon them appropriately early. In low ranks, junglers have unclear strategies and ADCs have poor pressure resistance, so sticking with the ADC to protect their development actually yields higher win rates.
