King of Glory’s event giving away 1,000 limited-time points has been running for two days now. Most of you should have accumulated some points. A common question I've received these past two days is: if there are no epic skins you want to exchange for, should you just top up some points yourself to get those eight legendary skins? This idea is understandable, but whether it's worth topping up depends on the situation. In this episode, let's calculate the cost.

Is it equivalent to buying a legendary at 40% off?

Let's clarify the prices first. Legendary skins sold directly in the shop normally cost 1,688 points. In this limited-time point shop, exchanging for a legendary requires 1,688 limited-time points. After deducting the 1,000 free points, you need to add 688 points yourself. That means you get a legendary skin for 688 points, which is roughly 40% off.

What does 40% off mean? Currently, the lowest discount in King of Glory is generally around 50% off. For example, the Fantasy Shop's direct-sale skins are 50% off, with legendary skins costing about 844 points. In comparison, this 40% off legendary skin costs 688 points, which is about 150 points less. That's already a very low price tier. Purely from a discount perspective, it's indeed a good deal.

If you only look at this aspect, then topping up 688 points for a legendary seems like a no-brainer. However, when buying skins, discounts alone aren't enough. The key is whether these skins themselves are worth it. Unfortunately, these eight legendary skins have relatively low cost-performance ratio.

They are: Wu Zetian's Ocean Heart, Da Mo's Golden Lion, Miyamoto Musashi's Hell Eye, Sun Wukong's Hellfire, Hou Yi's Golden Archer, Hua Mulan's Champion General, Meng Qi's Panda Rongrong, and Zhang Liang's Golden Aries. These are all relatively early-released skins. Moreover, in the Spring Festival's Pastry Market event, all eight of these appeared in the free prize pool. So if you participate in that event, you could get them for free, making it unnecessary to spend 688 points now.

Recommendation Order

If you do want to exchange, let me rank these eight by priority into three tiers:

Tier 1: Miyamoto Musashi's Hell Eye and Zhang Liang's Golden Aries. Miyamoto Musashi is a relatively popular hero, and Hell Eye is well-received among players. This skin also has a star legendary variant. The only downside is that its effects look a bit dated now. Also, Miyamoto actually has a free epic skin available, so it's not urgent; Zhang Liang's Golden Aries – the hero is popular and easy to play, and the Saint Seiya collaboration skin style is very cool. The skin quality is also outstanding. Moreover, Zhang Liang has no other high-quality free skins, so its scarcity is sufficient. Overall, this is the most recommended from the first tier.

Tier 2: Wu Zetian's Ocean Heart and Hou Yi's Golden Archer. Wu Zetian herself is relatively rare – few players even own the hero, let alone her skin. So this skin offers good value for money. It also has a star legendary variant, Ocean Dream, and no other high-quality free skins. The downside is the barrier of owning the hero – if you don't have her, don't bother; Hou Yi is a popular hero with almost no skill requirement, except maybe needing some accuracy for his ultimate. This is also a Saint Seiya collaboration. However, Hou Yi has several high-quality free skins, such as the legendary Divine Tree and the epic Shitian Yulong. So the urgency for this one is not that high – it's a "get if you like it" type.

Tier 3: Da Mo's Golden Lion, Sun Wukong's Hellfire, Hua Mulan's Champion General, and Meng Qi's Panda Rongrong. Each has its own issues. Da Mo's Golden Lion has decent quality and is a Saint Seiya collaboration, but the hero is currently weak in the meta, so you may not have many chances to use it; Sun Wukong's Hellfire is a classic skin with a star legendary variant, but its feel is considered too light by many players; Hua Mulan's Champion General and Meng Qi's Panda Rongrong are both good in quality – especially Panda Rongrong, which has a creative concept. However, both heroes are relatively unpopular now, and they both have free epic skins available. Naturally, their priority falls behind.

So, would you top up 688 points for a legendary skin?
