Greetings to all LPL viewers and League of Legends summoners, welcome to Tianxia Game Report.
The second day of the S15 Worlds Swiss Stage just wrapped up a key battle between LPL’s second seed AL and LCK’s champion team GEN, once again delivering an exciting match for the fans.
Despite falling far behind in the mid-game, AL managed a stunning comeback thanks to exceptional support play, producing a near-perfect match.
AL seizes the initiative in battle, while GEN secures the Rift Scuttler.
In this crucial match, GEN on the blue side picked Ryze first, then immediately locked in Kai'Sa for the bot lane, with jungle on Xin Zhao—these three picks had all shown strong performances previously. Their second round included top lane Kled and support Alistar, forming a balanced and stable composition typical of GEN’s style.
AL responded by first locking in Poppy as a flex pick, then drafted a mid-jungle duo of Taliyah and Qiyana to control tempo, followed by Aphelios bot and Kled top in the second phase. Their lineup heavily relies on mid-jungle synergy and strong jungle impact.
At the start, GEN swapped lanes due to bot lane disadvantages, putting Kai'Sa against Rek'Sai, with support joining top lane.
Canyon’s initial invade was caught by AL, wasting some time. After normal jungle starts, Tarzan made the first move with a mid-lane engage combined with Taliyah’s ultimate, diving under tower for a kill. Chovy secured first blood, but Taliyah got the kill and double buffs. Using mid-lane push advantage, AL claimed the first dragon.
After another bot lane swap, GEN attempted a 2v2 top lane counter-gank but was countered by AL, killing Alistar. Both junglers and mids then joined, resulting in a 2-for-2 trade, giving AL the early fight advantage. However, Tarzan failed to secure the Rift Scuttler, which GEN then took over.
Poppy’s godlike plays enable AL’s successful one-team turnaround.
At 10 minutes, GEN executed a five-man push top, but Tarzan’s ultimate saved Flandre, who flashed to safety.
At 12 minutes, AL used their mid-lane push and superior fighting strength to take the second dragon, but then made a critical mistake as mid-jungle tried to tower dive Kled and were collapsed on by GEN, killing Qiyana.
Editor’s note
At 15 minutes, AL took first tower blood on the bot lane, but GEN capitalized by securing Rift Herald. AL then invaded the jungle, with Qiyana’s ultimate initiating on Xin Zhao to force out his ultimate. GEN’s reinforcements arrived, but AL’s formation held strong, killing Alistar and retreating calmly.
In the three-dragon team fight, GEN rushed first, while AL tried to contest with Poppy’s ultimate combined with Qiyana’s engage. Kael’s flawless R flash combo with Tarzan secured the dragon, but Kiin’s Kled hit a triple Q, enabling GEN to wipe the team in a decisive fight.
Editor’s note
Despite GEN’s large lead and even killing Saint’s champion on the side lane, AL struck back in the crucial dragon fight. Kael’s Poppy performed a legendary hammer strike, eliminating both enemy carries. When Alistar engaged and Ruler returned with his ultimate, Kael interrupted it with W and, with teammates, instantly deleted Kai'Sa. AL then won the team fight and secured Baron with superior numbers.
LPL’s dream match, AL in a very strong position.
With Baron buff in hand, AL reversed the game momentum, taking firm control. After securing the Elder Dragon, a key team fight was won by Shanks’ ultimate isolating the enemy jungler, allowing AL to take Elder Dragon and close out the game with a huge lead.
In my opinion, this match stands as the most beautiful and dreamlike performance LPL has shown since the start of this year’s Swiss Stage.
It’s worth noting that AL consecutively faced Korean teams in this Swiss Stage—first the second seed HLE, then the top seed GEN—and won both matches. Kael’s support play was flawless in both games, making him the team’s MVP and impressing everyone.
After this victory, AL will join TES and CFO in the 2-0 seed pool, putting AL in a very favorable position to advance to the quarterfinals.
Since the Swiss Stage rules prevent facing the same opponent twice, AL has already eliminated two major Korean teams from their future matches. Facing other teams from China, Korea, or other regions, AL has a high chance to reach the top eight, a performance that surprised and delighted the audience.
Finally, we hope BLG, who will play later, can also secure a win, allowing the LPL region to achieve a perfect day of victories.
