S15 Round 3 matchups revealed! Faker faces a nightmare again, Baolan’s godlike pick triggers an LCK internal clash

Greetings to all LPL fans and League of Legends summoners, welcome to Tianxia Game Hub.

The matches on the second day of the S15 World Championship have just finished, and following the Swiss system, a fresh draw takes place after each day ends.

This round’s draw was done by IG’s champion support Baolan, who revealed a highly intense confrontation.

Baolan performed the live draw, and LPL once again avoided internal clashes

On the third day’s matchups, the LPL region achieved an impressive 3-0 record, while in the LCK region two teams lost, including the champion GEN and the most popular team T1, meaning these two teams will now be placed in the 1-1 record group.

According to the rules, tomorrow’s matches will feature the first promotion and elimination rounds, meaning after tomorrow’s games, two teams will advance to the quarterfinals and two teams will be eliminated.

The guest conducting the draw this time is S8 champion support Baolan, who started by drawing matchups from the 2-0 pool.

The teams with 2 wins and 0 losses are TES, AL, CFO, and KT. From an LPL perspective, the least desired outcome was an internal clash, but after Baolan’s draw, no intra-LPL match occurred. The final pairings are AL vs CFO and TES vs KT. Honestly, this is a very favorable draw for the LPL region.

Firstly, avoiding internal matches means both teams have a chance to advance. KT is one of the relatively weaker teams in LCK. Many viewers might think it’s better for AL to face KT this round, but since AL has already faced two Korean teams in the first two rounds, avoiding another Korean opponent this round is actually beneficial.

Faker faces a nightmare scenario, directly confronting GEN

TES has been performing excellently in the first two rounds. The match against KT looks evenly matched. KT had good luck in the initial draws, so their true strength remains uncertain. TES must seize this opportunity and bring their best form to fight for a quarterfinal spot.

Next is the highly anticipated 1-1 group matchup. This pool contains three LCK teams—GEN, T1, and HLE—one LPL team (BLG), and Europe’s champion G2, setting up potential high-stakes clashes.

Especially for BLG, who already faced 100T and thus cannot meet them again, with three LCK teams in the pool, BLG is very likely to be matched against a Korean team.

Then Baolan made a godlike move, immediately drawing the G2 vs BLG matchup, and the big one: GEN vs T1. This means GEN and T1 will face off directly. Despite Faker’s excellent luck in the first two rounds, he now faces a nightmare scenario against GEN, who has beaten T1 multiple times this season. If T1 loses, they could fall into the elimination round next.

LPL’s situation looks very promising but must stay humble and cautious

Other matchups include TSW vs FLY and 100T vs HLE. HLE undoubtedly got a good draw. The TSW vs FLY matchup is favorable for both sides because a Korean internal clash occurred and BLG drew G2, so everyone is happy to avoid tougher opponents.

In the 0-2 group draw, VKS will face PSG, and MKOI will take on FNC. Among these four teams, two will be eliminated.

Personally, after two days of competition, the LPL region’s outlook is very bright. Under these circumstances, LPL teams must remain humble and vigilant. In the initial phase, LPL’s understanding of the meta seems ahead, but it’s important to note that LCK has a terrifying ability to learn. Although LCK’s overall performance in the first two days was unsatisfactory, they may very well catch up and surpass later.

LPL teams need to continuously adjust their meta understanding through observation and learning, study the strategies and compositions of major regions, and keep optimizing their systems to have a chance to win in the Swiss rounds and get all three teams into the quarterfinals.

Hopefully, in the upcoming days, all three LPL teams can maintain good form and strive to break through early.
