LOL receives a major revelation! Riot officially announces that coaches might participate in directing matches in next year’s LCK season.

Greetings to all LPL fans and League of Legends summoners, welcome to Tianxia Game Report.

The S15 World Championship has officially ended, with Faker securing his sixth championship and making history with a never-before-seen three-peat, altering many viewers’ views on the game.

Less than a day after the finals wrapped up, LOL has been hit with a major scoop.

Major LOL scoop: coaches might be allowed to appear in matches.

Here’s the situation: Tabe recently revealed on his livestream that next year’s League of Legends competitions might introduce a new rule allowing coaches to call timeouts to set up tactics, similar to traditional sports where the game is paused briefly before resuming.

This revelation caught the audience’s attention. If this rule is truly implemented, the flow of League matches would definitely change. While it might affect the game’s smoothness, it could benefit players by giving them a short break to reset their mindset, which is crucial.

Shortly after, Riot also released their own scoop, but with a slightly different angle.

According to foreign media Sheep Esports, Riot is considering allowing coaches to communicate with players during mid-game, specifically highlighting the LCK, where coaches could assist during matches next season.

This scoop differs entirely from the timeout idea; it suggests coaches might even join the game voice chat with players.

The leak indicates that Riot is currently considering a proposal where teams can designate one coach to communicate with players during a limited time window in the match.

Less than 24 hours after winning the championship, Faker gets nerfed again.

The communication window with players would last 45 seconds, with up to three chances per match. After this news broke, fans went wild. If true, next year’s competitive landscape could shift significantly, and from the current perspective, Faker and T1 would likely be at a disadvantage.

First, let’s talk about Riot’s proposed plan: coaches can connect to player voice chat three times per match, which will greatly impact team strategies.

The key point is that the coach cannot have a “God’s eye” view. If the coach had full map vision, it would be like giving players full map information. Riot likely plans for the coach’s view to be aligned with that of their own team’s players before joining the voice chat.

Under this condition, coaches can do a lot, most importantly enforcing corrections when the team makes clear strategic errors or loses control of the game’s tempo. At critical moments, joining player voice chat can help steer the team back on track.

Helps weaker teams more, limited effect on strong teams.

For example, take TES’s matches: if they fail to take Dragon when they should, indicating a lapse in player judgment, the coach can intervene forcibly. There are many key game decisions where the coach’s role is to observe continuously from the start and provide crucial advice during the limited communication windows.

Personally, I think this plan would greatly benefit weaker teams, but for strong teams like T1, the improvement would be minimal.

The reason is simple: T1’s players already have nearly perfect decision-making and mechanical skills. Even in BO5 final games, they remain calm and decisive, so coach assistance doesn’t make a big difference.

However, for teams with less strength and players prone to mental fluctuations, such as some LPL squads, this help would be significant. Of course, good coaches in LPL are rare, and sometimes coaches can even be counterproductive.

Compared to Tabe’s timeout scoop, Riot’s news seems crazier — joining team voice chat without pausing means no disruption to game flow, which also seems more reasonable.
