Preface: The S16 season has officially kicked off, and it’s certain that the majority of players have been following the recent games closely. This offseason period has seen many team adjustments. Numerous seasoned pros are making their way back to the scene, indicating that the authorities are eager to boost the LPL’s viewership. Recently, a video has sparked heated discussions among players worldwide. It documents the life of a former League of Legends pro player who turned professional at a young age, once earning as much as 150,000 per month at his peak. However, his team manager led him into a life of extravagance and match-fixing, and after an official investigation, he fell into complete ruin. Now he barely makes a living by delivering food. According to reports, he was a talented jungler who once defeated Uzi and Vincent, and even reached rank six on the Korean server.

Most players are quite familiar with League of Legends. As an esports title, it has grown remarkably in just over a decade. Since its establishment, the LPL region has had a clear goal: to surpass the LCK and become the strongest League of Legends region in the world. In recent years, the LPL has faced various issues, especially after IG won the first world championship for the LPL in Season 8. This triggered a rapid surge in player salaries, with even rookies earning tens of thousands a month, clouding the judgment of many young newcomers.

Both the LPL and LDL have been cracking down on match-fixing for years, yet it persists. This is not just due to insufficient enforcement, but also because the temptation of rigged matches is enormous. Recently, an interview with a player permanently banned by the LPL went viral. It’s hard to imagine how fast pro players can earn money—it feels like money just raining down. Notably, this player never competed in the LPL, only briefly in the LDL, and his profile isn’t even listed in the database.

According to his account, he had decent grades early on, especially in math, but his passion for esports led him to drop out and pursue professional play. He once reached rank six on the Korean server, attracting offers from over a dozen clubs. He eventually chose one, entered as a trainee, and participated in LDL matches. In the video, he claims it was the LPL, but public records show he never played in the LPL, and he seems to have only played one season in the LDL. Even so, at his peak, he earned 150,000 a month and had at most 4 million in his pocket.

Eventually, under the multiple temptations of his team manager, he spent all his money and got involved in match-fixing. During that time, such issues were rampant in the LDL—managers would tempt players to blow through their savings. He also revealed an email from the league, dated September 18, 2021, in which the league inquired about match-fixing. The email was marked confidential, and its contents could not be disclosed without league approval. According to netizens, the player may have been with SDX, a club that was later disqualified for widespread match-fixing involvement.

It seems this player wants to make a comeback. His current life delivering food is livable but far from the joy he once had. However, it’s almost impossible for him to continue playing League of Legends—he has been banned across all platforms, even his registered accounts cannot log in, let alone stream. If he had held his ground back then, he might have become a solid LPL player. But every pitiful person has their blameworthy side; such a player does not deserve our sympathy.
What do you, dear viewers, think about this matter?
