The LCK third phase group matches are nearing their end. After successfully avenging T1 in the last match, GEN faced KT, known as Faker's exclusive power bank. Given the significant gap in strength between the two teams, KT had no chance and was swept 2:0. With a record of 23 wins and 1 loss, GEN has secured a top two position in the legendary group six games ahead of schedule, allowing them to start directly in the second round of the playoffs.
The other top two spot will be contested between HLE and T1, with a two-point gap between the two teams. It will be somewhat challenging for T1 to either catch up or overtake. However, HLE still has two matches against GEN and T1 ahead. If T1 can perform well and GEN also does not lose, T1 could still secure a top two finish. All three teams have already qualified for the playoffs, while the bottom teams, KT and NS, are confirmed to enter the play-in stage.
On the same day, the Rising group match featured DK against DNF. One team is a reborn champion, while the other is the weakest in the league. The outcome was predictable, with DK sweeping DNF 2:0, achieving their 14th victory. In the LCK rebirth group, the top three advance to the play-in stage. Currently, DRX is ranked fourth with a record of 7-17. Even if DRX wins all six remaining matches, their best record would only be 13-17, which cannot match or surpass DK.
DK has secured a spot in the LCK play-in stage six matches early. After the group matches conclude, DK will compete with legendary teams NS or KT for a playoff spot. In the last five matches, DK has only lost once, and Xu Ge's form has indeed improved, feeling like he might "transform the region into a fly," and rebuild the dynasty. However, there are still several minor issues within the team; the performances of the two newcomers in the top lane and jungle have not been as good as Xu Xiu and Yuanshen Ge.
After the crushing defeat in this match, DNF's record has dropped to 2-22. With only six matches remaining, even if they win all, DNF can only achieve a maximum of 8 wins, which is not enough to match the 9 points of BRO. Therefore, DNF is confirmed to miss the LCK play-in stage and playoffs. Globally, DNF is the first team, aside from OMG and RNG, to miss the playoffs of the third phase. Honestly, their strength is comparable to that of LNG.
Speaking of the roster, DNF isn't particularly weak. They have world champion Pyosik in the jungle, and Dudu in the top lane, who performed quite well last year. The support position has Laifu, who has partnered with Ruler. Although the double carries are newcomers, the foundation is still decent. It's surprising to see the matches turn out this way, and the management must be equally shocked. World champion jungler Pyosik has become the weak link in every match.
Among the current world champions, it's hard to find a player worse than Pyosik. Even Doinb could at least hold his own in lane and contribute in team fights. Little P not only has abstract mechanics but also lacks clarity in jungle pathing and ganking strategies. DNF signed him with the hope that the top and jungle duo would carry the three newcomers (with rotation in support), but these two brothers have been underperforming, nearly on par with the newcomers.
After this year's matches, Pyosik is likely to find himself unemployed. Previously, with the world champion buff, he made some money in North America, but his true colors were revealed when TL let him go. Returning to the LCK in hopes of achieving results, he has ended up at the bottom of the league for two consecutive years. Even in foreign leagues, no one would dare to sign him. Unless something unexpected happens, when the transfer period arrives, Pyosik will be released and may end up retiring without any offers.
If T1 wants to secure a top two finish, they mainly need to rely on themselves, as they still have two matches against HLE. If they win all, they can definitely lock in a top two spot. HLE's schedule is not easy; besides T1, they also have to face GEN in two matches. It seems challenging for HLE to win, and it’s likely they will finish third and enter the playoffs.
So what do you think? Is Pyosik the worst world champion?
