Vietnam’s leading pool player, Duong Quoc Hoang (known as Hoang Sao), has arrived in Manila, Philippines, to get ready for the Reyes Cup 2025, one of the most prestigious team tournaments worldwide, featuring the top players on the planet.
Being granted a special invitation to join the Asian team at this event is a well-earned reward for Hoang Sao’s relentless dedication throughout the past year.
Reyes Cup 2025, taking place from October 16 to 19 in Manila, is a high-level team pool competition organized by Matchroom Pool, inspired by the Mosconi Cup. Following the huge success of the inaugural 2024 season, this year’s edition promises to be even more competitive as the Asian team faces the rest of the world, including leading players from Europe and the USA.

Previously, news that Duong Quoc Hoang might miss this year’s Reyes Cup caused worry among Vietnamese fans. The Quang Ninh native is currently ranked 7th in Asia, while the Asian team only has 5 official slots. A special invitation was awarded to young Filipino player Albert James Manas, making Hoang Sao’s chances slim.
However, the organizers delivered a major surprise. During a meeting recorded by the World Nineball Tour (WNT), Matchroom representatives initially announced that Hoang Sao was not listed for Reyes Cup 2025, which briefly saddened him. But shortly after, CEO Emily Frazer unexpectedly tossed him the Asian team jersey, officially confirming his special selection. That moment caused Hoang Sao to shout with joy, overwhelmed with emotion as a dream once thought lost became reality.
