The 2025 VBSF National Pool & Snooker Championship wrapped up in Hanoi after several days of lively competition, gathering 573 of the nation’s best players. The standout moment this year was the spectacular win by veteran Nguyễn Thành Nam in the men’s 10-ball pool event, earning a valuable national title at age 49.
In the eagerly awaited final, Nguyễn Thành Nam competed against Hoàng Thái Duy, a seasoned player from Ho Chi Minh City. With strong nerves and steady form, the Hanoi competitor convincingly beat his rival 7-3, solidifying his reputation as a courageous and experienced cueist. This victory not only secured his second national championship but also demonstrated the lasting endurance and limitless passion of an athlete nearing 50 years old.
Nguyễn Thành Nam triumphs in the men’s 10-ball pool category
Notably, Nguyễn Thành Nam had only returned to professional competition for six months after a long break, yet he has consistently made a strong impression. At the 2025 Hanoi Open, he also made headlines by reaching the Last 32 despite tough competition from younger players. This latest accomplishment continues to reflect his determined spirit and superior skills — qualities that have earned him the nickname “the older the ginger, the spicier” in the Vietnamese billiards community.
This year’s National Cup also witnessed several remarkable outcomes in other events. Nguyễn Nhật Thanh (Ho Chi Minh City) won gold in the men’s 6-red snooker, while Dương Yến Vi (Hanoi) claimed the women’s 9-ball pool title. In the men’s 9-ball pool, Lường Đức Thiện (Hanoi) took first place, and the youth 9-ball pool category saw an impressive performance from Chúng Đức Vinh (Thanh Hóa).
