How much prize money did Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Tu receive for winning the world three-cushion carom championship?

Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Tu have just taken Vietnamese three-cushion carom billiards to the top of the world for the second time. A point of considerable interest for fans right now is the amount of bonus our duo of players obtained.

The prize money for Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Tu is not as high as many might think

According to the announced prize structure and support from the UMB (World Billiards Union), the total prize fund for the tournament is 42,000 euros. Within this, the champion team receives 8,000 euros for first place. The runner-up team gets 6,000 euros, the two teams tied for third place receive 3,600 euros each, positions 5-8 receive 2,400 euros per team, and positions 9-16 receive 1,400 euros per team.

By clinching the championship title, Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Tu – the two cueists representing the Vietnamese national team – secured a prize of 8,000 euros (approximately 246 million VND at the current exchange rate) for their team. This is the prize money for the entire team, and it is typically divided equally between the two athletes, meaning each receives about 4,000 euros before taxes and any related fees (if there are specific regulations from the organizers or federation).

Additionally, according to the announcement, the UMB also provided 21,000 euros in prize support and 25,000 euros in organizational costs to the host. However, this is support allocated to the hosting entity, not additional prize money for the teams.

Similar to tennis, doubles events generally offer less prize money than singles events. For comparison, the world three-cushion carom singles championship awards 40,000 euros (over 1 billion VND) to its champion. The World Masters championship has a prize of 50,000 USD (1.3 billion VND), while winning a World Cup stage carries a prize of 16,000 USD. In December 2025, when Quyet Chien won the Blois 3-Cushion Challenge, he also pocketed 30,000 euros (equivalent to 926 million VND).

It should be noted that the aforementioned 8,000 euros is only the official prize money from the tournament organizers. Any additional performance bonuses, sponsorship funds, or rewards from their managing body, domestic federation, or personal sponsors (if any) have not yet been disclosed. Also, according to the organizers, participating teams will have their accommodation and meals covered at the Intercontinental Hotel throughout the competition period, but they must pay a participation fee of 400 euros.

Although the figure is not exceptionally large compared to many other professional sports, the world championship title remains a career pinnacle for Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Tu – simultaneously opening up greater sponsorship and income opportunities in the future for Vietnam's two top cueists.
