It is believed that Arsenal's striker Kai Havertz has picked up an injury and may be out of action in the near future.
According to The Athletic, Kai Havertz has suffered a new knee injury and missed Arsenal’s open training session at Emirates Stadium on the morning of August 20 (UK time). This is unfortunate news for coach Mikel Arteta, especially since the German star has only just returned after a long layoff due to a hamstring injury during the mid-season training camp in Dubai.
Havertz recently played in the Premier League opener last weekend, coming on for Viktor Gyokeres in the 60th minute during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Man Utd at Old Trafford. The fact that the 1999-born player may continue to miss games puts the “Gunners” in a difficult situation.
The reason is, apart from Gyokeres, the London club has almost no other options for the centre-forward position. Gabriel Jesus is still recovering from an ACL injury, and last season Arteta had to rotate by using Mikel Merino or Leandro Trossard as the main striker, but neither proved fully effective.
Havertz’s injury further increases Arsenal’s need to strengthen their attacking lineup. The club had already considered adding attacking options before this incident occurred. One of the notable names mentioned is Rodrygo from Real Madrid.
However, coach Xabi Alonso has reassured fans by stating that Rodrygo’s presence on the bench during the 1-0 victory over Osasuna was simply a tactical decision..
Previously, the Emirates club had targeted Benjamin Sesko, but the striker opted to join Man Utd. Additionally, the “Gunners” have been linked with several other forwards such as Nicolas Jackson, Alexander Isak, and Christopher Nkunku, though these have only remained rumors.
The possibility of Havertz being out for an extended period will undoubtedly deal a heavy blow to Arsenal’s ambitions, as the team is determined to take another step towards conquering the Premier League title.
Under the guidance of coach Mikel Arteta, the “Gunners” are considered one of the top contenders, alongside reigning champions Liverpool and a resurgent Man City.
