Midfielder Quang Hải was left disappointed when CAHN lost to BG Pathum United on the road in the group stage of the Southeast Asian Champions League 2025/26, even though they had a player advantage.
Despite being reduced to 10 men after Fornazzari received a red card and was sent off near the end of the first half, BG Pathum United staged a comeback thanks to the outstanding performance of Chanathip Songkrasin.
He was brought on in the second half and impressively netted two goals (in the 58th and 90+7th minutes), with the second being a long-range strike from midfield, helping BG Pathum United secure a 2-1 win over CAHN. Alan Grafite scored CAHN's only goal in the 20th minute.
Quang Hải admitted that BG Pathum United, the home team, played with remarkable bravery.
After the match, Chanathip Songkrasin commented: "First, I want to thank the coach, the staff, and all my teammates. Even when we were down to 10 men, we kept our focus and fought hard till the end to win."
Regarding my phone-call celebration, that was me calling my mother. I had planned this gesture if I managed to score today. But overall, I was fortunate to be able to do it."
"For the second goal, the long-range shot from midfield, I just kicked instinctively and didn’t expect it to go in. I think luck played a part. Still, without my teammates, I couldn’t have created such a special moment. I also want to thank the supporters who stayed and cheered us on, even when we were down to 10 men. You gave us the extra motivation to fight for you.
In the next Shopee Cup match, we’ll face Buriram United. Buriram is definitely a strong team. We lost to them last season, but this year, we really want to beat them."
Meanwhile, CAHN captain Quang Hải regretted: "It’s a real shame that we couldn’t maintain our advantage at the end. Still, the whole squad put in a great effort, and it was also a courageous match from the home side."
Commenting on the current situation of teammate Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh, Quang Hải said: "Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh suffered a cut on his forehead after a collision and was taken to the hospital for a check-up. Hopefully, Việt Anh doesn’t have any serious issues and can get ready for CAHN’s next match."
After this loss, CAHN returned home to prepare for their away game against Becamex TPHCM in Round 2 of the LPBank V-League 2025/26 on August 24th.
