CAHN revealed a flaw after a tough loss to Pathum Utd at the Southeast Asian Club Championship.
CAHN had a forgettable start in the 2025/26 Southeast Asian Club Championship with a defeat at Pathum Utd's home ground.
Notably, the Vietnamese representative played better than their opponent for most of the match, especially since the hosts were down to ten men from the second half.
This was evident in the statistics, as CAHN controlled possession up to 62%. Moreover, the police-affiliated team showed a lack of sharpness in finishing. Quang Hải and his teammates took 21 shots at Pathum Utd’s goal, three times more than the hosts, yet only 12 were on target, and just one resulted in a goal.
Meanwhile, Pathum Utd players had only seven shots but were nearly perfect in conversion, scoring two beautiful goals by Chanathip Songkrasin.
Previously, CAHN had already shown inefficiency in attack during their V-League opener. In the match against Viettel Army Club, HLV Mano Polking’s squad outshot the military team 14 times, double their opponent. Therefore, CAHN’s expected goals (xG) in that game were rated by SofaScore at approximately 1.66, but all this resulted in just a single goal by Alan Grafite.
In total, across the first two matches of the season, CAHN took 35 shots but only converted twice, yielding a conversion rate just over 0.05%. Clearly, this is an unimpressive figure for a squad boasting high-caliber forwards like Leo Artur, Alan Grafite, and Vitao.
Last season, the brilliance of these stars helped CAHN create a thrilling title race with Thep Xanh Nam Dinh, reach the Southeast Asian Club Championship final, and win the National Cup.
However, the performances in the last two games indicate that Mano Polking and his team have much to improve, especially in attack efficiency, if they aim to conquer trophies this season.
Following the loss in Thailand, CAHN will travel to face Becamex TP.HCM in round 2 of the V-League.
