Latest information on the Vietnam U16 Futsal Team’s fixtures for the 2025 Asian Youth Games.
The Vietnam U16 futsal team is expected to be formed by the end of August in preparation for one of the year’s notable sporting events, the 2025 Asian Youth Games. The tournament will take place in the capital city of Manama (Bahrain) from October 22 to 31, featuring 21 sports, including futsal, a rapidly growing sport in the region.
According to the Asian Olympic Council (OCA) regulations, futsal at the Youth ASIAD is only open to players born in 2009 or later, i.e., under-16 age group. This is considered a valuable opportunity for regional and continental futsal programs to showcase and test their young talents, while laying a foundation for future Asian and world competitions.
Recently, OCA announced the list of 12 teams competing in the men’s futsal event. Vietnam, along with Thailand and Myanmar, represent Southeast Asia. The 12 teams will be divided into four groups, playing a single round-robin to select the top two from each group to advance to the quarterfinals. This format promises intense matches right from the group stage.
Among the contenders, Iran and Japan are regarded as Asia’s futsal powerhouses and leading favorites for the gold medal. Additionally, Uzbekistan, Thailand, and Kuwait are formidable teams with established reputations in youth and national team competitions.
Currently, only two domestic clubs, Thái Sơn Nam and Thái Sơn Bắc, train players born in 2009 or later. Therefore, it is highly likely that the core of the Vietnam U16 futsal team will be selected from these two academies.
Vietnam U16 Futsal Team’s participation in the 2025 Asian Youth Games is not only for competition experience but also an opportunity to assess the youth training system. Given Vietnam’s impressive achievements at the national team level, preparing a strong next generation is essential to maintain and enhance their continental standing.
The upcoming tournament in Bahrain is expected to help Vietnam’s young players gain knowledge, grow, and accumulate valuable experience. This will be an important foundation to boost their confidence for bigger future tournaments and contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnamese futsal.
