WTT Sweden Grand Slam: Four players reached the women's singles quarterfinals, Zhu Yuling suffered a 0-3 defeat, while Sun Yingsha won 3-0 against Hina Hayata.

On August 21st Beijing time, during the WTT Sweden Grand Slam women's singles round of 16, the recent two matches ended with Zhu Yuling losing 0-3 to Japan’s young talent Satsuki Odo, while Sun Yingsha dominated Hina Hayata 3-0. Consequently, four spots in the quarterfinals have been claimed by Chen Yi, Wang Manyu, Sun Yingsha, and Satsuki Odo!

Zhu Yuling competed against Satsuki Odo. Zhu Yuling, a former world number one for China, returned this season representing Macau. She recently won the US Grand Slam title, proving her enduring skill. In this tournament, Zhu advanced to the last 16 without much trouble and met Japan’s rising star Satsuki Odo for a place in the quarterfinals. In the first game, Zhu initially led in points, but Odo gradually closed the gap and overtook her. The two exchanged fierce rallies with the score going back and forth until Odo clinched the first game 14-12 with precise and decisive shots. In the second game, Odo quickly built a significant lead. Zhu intensified her attacks to catch up, but Odo pushed further ahead again. Zhu couldn’t keep pace and lost 8-11. In the third game, Zhu started strong with varied attacks and a large lead, but Odo fought back to level the score. At the crucial moment, Zhu faltered and lost 9-11, resulting in a 0-3 sweep and missing out on the quarterfinals!

Sun Yingsha faced Japan’s main player Hina Hayata. Having met multiple times before, Sun clearly dominated Hayata, proving to be an insurmountable challenge. From the start, Sun was in top form, launching powerful attacks and quickly establishing a commanding lead, winning the first game 11-5 and stunning Hayata. In the second game, Hayata adjusted her tactics, making the match more intense, but Sun remained steady and secured the game 11-8. In the third game, Hayata lost focus and played carelessly, while Sun took full control and fired again to win 11-5. Sun achieved a 3-0 clean sweep over Hayata, maintaining absolute dominance over her opponent!

So far, four spots in the women’s singles quarterfinals have been secured in this tournament, with three Chinese players advancing: Chen Yi, Wang Manyu, and Sun Yingsha. Still competing for quarterfinal places are Chen Xingtong, Wang Yidi, Kuai Man, and Shi Xunyao. The best possible outcome would be six Chinese players reaching the quarterfinals, which is highly likely. Let’s wait and see!
