Coach Arne Slot has just announced that Jeremie Frimpong will miss Liverpool’s upcoming tough fixtures against Newcastle and Arsenal, following a hamstring injury sustained by the Dutch right-back in the victory over Bournemouth.
Arne Slot confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong will be sidelined for at least the next two Liverpool matches after the right-back picked up a hamstring injury in the win against Bournemouth. This is a major blow for the “Reds” as they prepare for a challenging run facing Newcastle and Arsenal at the Premier League.
In the pre-match press conference, Arne Slot stated that Frimpong will be out until the end of the international break. The Dutch coach shared: “The medical team was absolutely right to ask me to take Frimpong off the pitch. If he had continued playing, his recovery time could have been much longer. We hope Frimpong will return after the international fixtures.”
Frimpong’s injury means Liverpool have lost both of their regular right-backs, as Conor Bradley is also not ready to return despite recently resuming light training. This forces Arne Slot to consider temporary solutions.
Sources inside Liverpool reveal that Joe Gomez, Wataru Endo, and Dominik Szoboszlai are all being considered for the right-back position. However, none are ideal choices. Gomez is the most feasible option but has just recovered from an Achilles tendon injury and may struggle to play a full 90 minutes.
If Bradley remains unavailable, Slot will likely rotate between Gomez and Endo, while adjusting the tactical setup to minimize vulnerabilities on the right flank.
Liverpool will travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle, a very tough opponent especially at home. Just days later, they will face Arsenal on August 31, a match that could directly impact the title race.
The absence of Frimpong and Bradley certainly presents a huge challenge for Arne Slot in maintaining defensive solidity, particularly against fast and aggressive attacking teams. This period will test the resilience of Liverpool’s new manager early in the season.
