Brazilian reports state that Fenerbahçe from the Turkish Super League is prepared to meet the €45 million (approximately £40 million) valuation to sign Brazilian winger Antony from Manchester United. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old "Compass" is still unwilling to move to any club other than Real Betis. Earlier, he turned down approaches from São Paulo and Botafogo in Brazil, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr, and Portugal’s Benfica.
Manchester United is seeking a permanent transfer for Antony, who impressed on loan last season at La Liga’s Betis with 9 goals and 5 assists. Betis have clearly expressed their desire to re-sign the Brazilian winger but are reluctant to increase their offer.
Betis’ sporting director Manuel Fahardo stated this month: "Every day we dream of having him here. But if Antony is to join, the transfer fee must be reasonable, and above all, the club’s sustainability matters; we cannot do anything reckless."
Betis’ offer does not exceed €20 million, aiming to first buy 50% of Antony’s rights and then loan him for another season, with Manchester United still covering part of his wages. Naturally, the Red Devils disagree, and Betis along with Antony hope to delay until the summer window nears its end to pressure the club into accepting this deal.
According to Brazilian ESPN, Fenerbahçe intends to sign Antony outright and has informed Manchester United they are ready to pay €45 million, meeting the Red Devils’ asking price to complete the deal. This week, Fenerbahçe also loaned West Ham’s former Ajax player Edson Álvarez, but reportedly Antony remains unconvinced about joining Mourinho’s team and is still weighing his preferred options.
However, Mourinho still has a chance because the Turkish transfer window closes later than most European leagues—until September 15th. If Antony remains at Manchester United after the summer window in the top five leagues closes, he might then consider offers from Turkey. With the World Cup next year, Antony also hopes to be selected by Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini said this week he is eager to bring Antony back to the club. "I haven’t spoken with Antony yet, but we all know he was very happy during his six months with us. We want him back, and he definitely wants to return, but it depends on what Manchester United, his club, intends to do with him."
Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth reported: "Betis is exploring various financial options to secure a deal for Manchester United forward Antony. These include converting most of the transfer fee into incentive-based add-ons. Ideally, Manchester United wants a permanent transfer. However, with just over ten days left in the window and the player himself wanting to return to Betis, a loan deal cannot be ruled out. Antony wore the number 7 shirt during his loan last season, and Betis have kept it reserved for him."
Antony is confident he can leave Manchester United before the summer window closes, and English winger Jadon Sancho shares a similar situation and mindset. Sky Sports reports Sancho believes he can make a clean break from Manchester United. He recently declined a Roma offer, though the Serie A club has not given up, and Inter Milan is also reportedly interested. Besiktas, coached by Solskjær, has shown interest but has not actively pursued negotiations.
Former club Borussia Dortmund is among the teams monitoring Sancho, and weekend rumors suggest Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich unexpectedly inquired about him. Spain’s "Fichajes" transfer site mentioned Kompany’s interest in Sancho, but this seems less credible as Bayern have already signed Liverpool’s Luis Díaz.
