Cristiano Ronaldo keeps experiencing frustration with Al Nassr after another defeat in a final, prolonging his winless streak in Saudi Arabia and preventing the “trophy curse” from being lifted.
The 2025 Saudi Super Cup final in Hong Kong was seen as a golden opportunity for Ronaldo and Al Nassr to claim their first official title. The Portuguese star showed great determination, scoring during regular time and converting his penalty in the shootout. However, Al Nassr ultimately lost 3-5 to Al Ahli after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes, missing out on the prestigious trophy once again.
This marked the third consecutive final defeat for Ronaldo with Al Nassr. Previously, he and the team lost the 2023-24 King’s Cup final and the 2024 Super Cup. The only title CR7 has won since arriving in Saudi Arabia is the Arab Club Champions Cup, which is not officially recognized by FIFA.
This means Ronaldo has gone four straight years without winning an official title since his Coppa Italia victory with Juventus in 2021. For a player synonymous with success, this trophy drought is seen as a “curse” haunting his career in the Middle East.
Since joining Al Nassr in January 2023, Ronaldo has maintained an impressive scoring rate, becoming the team’s leading striker and a symbol of the Saudi Pro League. Yet, his individual efforts have not been enough to prevent the club from remaining trophyless. Last season, Al Nassr not only lost in finals but also failed to qualify for the AFC Champions League, relegating them to the secondary AFC Champions League Two competition in Asia.
Saudi media viewed the final against Al Ahli as a major chance for Ronaldo to break his streak of disappointments, but the result cast another shadow over his journey. Al Ahli claimed the championship while Ronaldo and his teammates could only watch the trophy slip away.
The curse of not winning an official title with Al Nassr has become a psychological burden for Ronaldo. At 39 years old, time is running out for him to add more trophies to his collection. The question remains whether CR7 can overcome this losing streak to regain glory in yellow and blue, or if he will end his illustrious career with an unfinished chapter in the Middle East.
