Kylian Mbappe keeps proving his excellence by outshining every competitor to be the leading goal scorer in the top five European leagues since the previous season began.
During the away match at Oviedo in the second round of La Liga, Mbappe once again played the hero for Real Madrid. In the 37th minute, following a fierce midfield battle, Aurelien Tchouameni initiated a fast counterattack. Arda Guler drove the ball straight through the center and delivered a perfect through pass to Mbappe. Surrounded by two defenders, the French striker calmly controlled the ball before firing a powerful angled shot to open the scoring.
At the 83rd minute, Vinicius Junior stole the ball from the home player and crossed it perfectly for Mbappe to complete his brace. This was also his third goal of the new season, securing the victory for Real Madrid. Without the outstanding performance of Oviedo’s goalkeeper, Mbappe might have left the field with a full hat-trick before being substituted by Dani Ceballos in the 87th minute.
Notably, 3 out of 4 goals scored by Real Madrid in La Liga this season have involved Mbappe. The French forward shows a devastating scoring rate, continuing his brilliant form from last season when he won the La Liga top scorer title. Across all competitions since the start of the 2024/25 season, Mbappe has scored a total of 46 goals — more than any other player in Europe.
Trailing Mbappe in the list of top scorers are Harry Kane with 45 goals for Bayern Munich and Robert Lewandowski with 42 goals for Barcelona. These figures confirm that the “Ninja Turtle” remains a real nightmare for every defense.
As for Oviedo, the La Liga newcomer also made an impression with their disciplined and resilient play. They nearly equalized when Kwasi Sibo’s shot hit the post in the 82nd minute, only to see Mbappe quickly punish them with his second goal. In the final minutes, Vinicius added another goal to seal a 3-0 win for the visitors with a skillful finish assisted by Brahim Diaz.
This result helps Real Madrid maintain their winning streak and stay among the top three teams in La Liga alongside Barcelona and Villarreal. In the next round, coach Xabi Alonso’s team will continue their campaign against Mallorca, while Oviedo will face a tough opponent in Sociedad. With Mbappe’s form, Real Madrid is proving to be the strongest contender for the championship this season.
