The successor to Coach Kim Sang Sik temporarily leading the Vietnam national team revealed

Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh is set to take over from Coach Kim Sang Sik to guide the Vietnam national team in the upcoming September training period.

Recently, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) officially announced the list of 22 players for the Vietnam national team during the FIFA Days in September.

Notably, Coach Kim Sang Sik will not be working with the national team stars during this training session. The reason is that the Korean strategist will accompany the U23 Vietnam squad in the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers. This campaign includes three matches in early September, coinciding with the Vietnam national team’s schedule.

Therefore, the VFF decided to appoint Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh to replace Coach Kim Sang Sik. The 51-year-old coach will lead the Vietnam national team in two friendly matches against Hanoi Police Club (on September 4) and Thep Xanh Nam Dinh Club (on September 7).

Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh will stand in for Coach Kim Sang Sik to manage the Vietnam national team during the FIFA Days in September

Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh is a familiar figure across various levels of the Vietnam national teams and has earned the trust of Coach Kim Sang Sik.

The strategist from Binh Dinh was previously assigned as the acting head coach of the U22 Vietnam team, leading them in a friendly tournament in China upon Kim Sang Sik’s recommendation. In that competition, U22 Vietnam performed impressively by remaining unbeaten and ultimately finishing second behind the host nation, China.

Moreover, during the Vietnam national team’s training camp in South Korea preparing for the 2024 AFF Cup, Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh’s approach to personnel management was adopted by Coach Kim. The former defender’s professional contributions helped Coach Kim Sang Sik analyze, select, and shape the squad, contributing to their Southeast Asian championship victory.

For the Vietnam national team, the upcoming two friendly matches will be valuable opportunities for the "Golden Star Warriors" to gain essential match experience before continuing their campaign in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers in October.
