After Round 2 of the Premier League: Manchester’s Struggles

The second round of the 2025/26 Premier League ended with thrilling action, especially the impressive breakthroughs by the top clubs and the worrying downturn of other major teams.

Arsenal continued to demonstrate their superior strength by crushing Leeds United 5-0 at their home ground, Emirates Stadium. The Gunners’ attacking line was in excellent form with explosive offensive play, enabling Mikel Arteta’s team to maintain a perfect winning record after two rounds, sitting firmly at the top of the table with 6 points and a +6 goal difference. This marks a perfect start, showing Arsenal’s determination to compete for the title after finishing as runners-up for three consecutive seasons.

While Arsenal impressed, Tottenham made the biggest noise this round by defeating Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Under their new coach, Spurs displayed an extremely effective counter-attacking defensive style that completely stifled Pep Guardiola’s attacking lineup.

This victory gave Tottenham a full 6 points from two matches, temporarily placing them second in the standings, just behind Arsenal on goal difference. Conversely, Man City dropped to sixth place with only 3 points, raising concerns about the defending champions’ ability to retain their crown.

Meanwhile, Liverpool maintained their impressive form by edging Newcastle 3-2 in one of the most thrilling matches of the round. Despite conceding a late equalizer, The Reds rallied strongly thanks to the brilliance of their attacking stars, especially young talent Rio Ngumoha. The win moved Liverpool up to third place, level on 6 points with Arsenal and Tottenham but behind on goal difference.

Chelsea bounced back from a disappointing draw in the opening round by thrashing West Ham 5-1 at Stamford Bridge. The offensive explosion combined with tactical highlights from the new manager helped The Blues climb to fourth place with 4 points, temporarily rejoining the fight for a top-four spot.

On the other hand, Manchester United continued to disappoint by drawing 1-1 against Fulham at Old Trafford. After two rounds, the Red Devils have only secured 1 point, falling into the lower part of the table and facing intense pressure from fans’ criticism. Without quick improvement, coach Ruben Amorim’s squad risks falling behind in the race for the top spots.

Following the events of round 2, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool have emerged as the three leading contenders for the 2025/26 Premier League title. Meanwhile, Manchester City and Manchester United must swiftly regain form if they do not want to fall behind early in the season. The upcoming third round promises more fierce clashes as the big clubs push to assert their ambitions.
