Vietnam’s U16 girls are getting ready for their semifinal match in the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Girls Championship versus Thailand.
Having won both group stage matches against Cambodia and Myanmar, Vietnam’s U16 girls confidently advanced to the semifinals as the top team in Group B. Their opponent in the final four will be Thailand’s U16 girls, who qualified as the best second-placed team.
On the afternoon of August 26, inside the conference room at Solo Paragon Hotel, Surakarta, Indonesia, the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) held a technical meeting attended by representatives of the four semifinalist teams in the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Girls Championship. The meeting covered the tournament rules and regulations that all teams must follow.
Accordingly, the Thailand U16 team will wear their traditional blue jerseys, with the goalkeeper in yellow, while Vietnam’s U16 girls will wear red. There will be a total of 5 substitutions allowed per match, made in up to 3 separate occasions. Additionally, if a player suffers a head injury, one extra substitution is permitted.
The match will not feature VAR. Scheduled at 3:30 PM, each half will include two cooling breaks for players to hydrate, subject to the referee’s discretion. Furthermore, neither Vietnam nor Thailand’s U16 girls have any suspended players for this semifinal.
Moreover, in the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 girls semifinal, if the teams are tied after 90 minutes, the winner will be decided immediately by a penalty shootout without extra time. Vietnam’s U16 girls have demonstrated strong penalty skills, having scored both goals against Myanmar from the penalty spot.
So far, Vietnam’s U16 girls have never won the Southeast Asian U16 Championship nor reached the final. In their four participations, their best results were three third-place finishes and one elimination in the group stage.
